In this guide we’re going to drill down on the Technician setup options available in webSAM.

Hourly cost

Why should I care about this?

The hourly cost against each technician is used to calculate their cost for each labour line. This is essential for calculating our labour margin.

To calculate a more accurate hourly cost you will need to account for not just the technicians hourly rate, you also need to allow for annual/ sick/bereavement leave, employers contributions, Stat holidays and consumables used.

Adding 25% - 30% onto top of the paid rate will get closer to a true technician cost.

**We are excluding any unproductive time**

Another tip, to stop any wandering eyes checking who gets paid more! Is to average all the technician wages by adding them all up, apply an additional 25% to the total and then dividing by the number of technicians. This will give you an average cost per tech

Here you can select which labour rates a technician can use, by default they are all ticked. You may want to use this in a situation where you don’t want a technician accidently selecting a labour rate they shouldn’t use.

To change the hourly rate you can follow this guide.
